The Team

Meet the Balance & Stretch® Team

As a group and as individuals, the leadership of The Balance & Stretch Center, Inc. supports the tremendous work at the many non-profit and for-profit organizations that support those with health oriented challenges. Our team is made up of volunteers serving as Trustees, Management and Outreach Support. Please let us know if you are interested in helping us help others.

Rick Miller (Chair) lives successfully with a number of health challenges. Rick chooses daily to actively balance his food, exercise, stress, sleep and medication to manage high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and type 1 diabetes. As a cancer survivor, Rick has also consistently relied on a team of health care professionals to maintain good health. Rick also chooses balance in life as a husband, father, brother and son. He is also a coach, counselor, a speaker and advisor to individuals and commercial organizations through Choices & Success,LLC, another organization that Rick founded to help people. (choicesandsuccess.com) Professionally, Rick has also successfully led businesses ranging from start ups to $13B multi-national business units. Personally and professionally, Rick chooses to stretch regularly to reach his own potential as he volunteers to help others reach their potential. Rick developed the Balance & Stretch concept in 2002 and founded The Balance & Stretch Center Inc in 2006.

John Maconga is the Executive Director at America SCORES New England. John for responsible for the overall executive management of America SCORES NE, including outreach, collaborations, brand development, strategic planning, fundraising, board development, program oversight and organizational management. John comes to SCORES from Courageous Sailing, a youth development organization providing sailing, environmental education and leadership programs for at-risk Boston youth where he served as Executive Director. Prior to joining Courageous, John served as Executive Director of The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, a retreat providing education, recreation and support programs for children with diabetes and their families. In addition to his non-profit experience, he practiced law for ten years in both private practice and as in-house counsel.

Paul B. Madden As a successful individual living with diabetes for over 48 years, Paul has shared the principles of Balance & Stretch world-wide. As an author, counselor, advocate, business consultant and faculty member at Harvard University, Paul has stretched to become a renowned expert in the support of the diabetic community. Paul has designed and implemented award winning programs for kids, adults and families as part of a 30 year career at the Joslin Diabetes Center. Paul has also held leadership positions at the ADA, JDRF and the International Diabetes Federation. Paul has served as the Director of Medical Affairs and Advocacy for the Animas Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson company. Paul currently serves as Director of Advocacy & Education, Nutrition Education and Empowerment for Pepsico.

CarlaTardif is Founder and President of CMT Entertainment. She sets high expectations for success. With more than 12 years of events planning and fundraising experience, Carla’s creativity, style and determination have enabled her to design and execute highly successful events that meet the business goals and corporate giving mission of her clients. A graduate of Syracuse University, Carla spent six years with The Muscular Dystrophy Association in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston, mastering the details of planning special events, telethons, auctions and galas. After returning home to New England, she combined her communications education with a love of the entertainment industry, to become a sought-after fundraiser and resource to foundations, non-profit organizations and corporations alike. Developing "parties with a purpose" is just one way Carla contributes to the success of her clientele.

Lynn Butler is the Associate Executive Director & Director of Development at The Barton Center for Diabetes, Inc. in North Oxford, MA. The mission of The Barton Center is to improve the lives of children with insulin dependent diabetes through education, recreation and support programs which inspire and empower. The Barton Center operates two resident camps, six day camps and several year round programs. Lynn has been with The Barton Center for over ten years in various positions. Lynn's joy comes from the smiles on the campers faces as they develop new friendships, new skills and confidence; the dedication and commitment of campers who return as staff members; and the feedback from parents who report back that their once shy, timid child who was embarrassed and isolated by their diabetes has become transformed into a more self-assured child who has learned to balance their health, and help others to do the same.

Mike Kalousis - Treasurer, is a financial leader with over 20 years experience in Financial Management and Planning and is a Controller at a leading technology company.  Mike has been involved in health and fitness early on in his life and competed in Judo.  Over the last 5 years Mike has lost over 65 pounds by managing his diet with an aggressive exercise regiment.  Mike understands the value of maintaining good health through a healthy diet and exercise.  Mike effectively balances his career with his responsibilities as a husband, father, son, and brother.
